solo guitar

Solo flamenco guitar is a sure way to add a distinctive and memorable sound to any event. I play a wide range of traditional flamenco inspired and influenced by the contemporary masters. My repertoire ranges from the brightly festive to the tranquilly somber and can be adapted to create a variety of moods and ambiences.

Flamenco forms, or palos (toques when played on the guitar), can be thought of as branches on the "flamenco tree." Much like "standards" in jazz, each toque has distinctive features, but is also deeply influenced by the individual player and by the context in which it is played. My repertoire includes traditional toques such as alegria, solea, buleria, tangos, malagena, granaina, sevillanas, fandangos and guajira, all of which I "play for the occasion" to create a unique and individualized performance.

flamenco ensemble

A flamenco ensemble can range in size from a guitar player and a single dancer or singer or a full cuadro flamenco including guitar, vocals, multiple dancers, and percussion. I have had the great pleasure to work with a number of outstanding performers in the Seattle area and have assembled shows for a variety of events ranging from private banquets to large scale festivals. Whatever the context, a flamenco ensemble performance makes for a very attention getting "main attraction."

weddings

I have had the pleasure of performing and participating in a number of weddings over the years and have a deep appreciation for their beauty and complexity. This said, however, I am convinced that anyone who tells you that any one style of music is perfect for all weddings must have ulterior motives. Flamenco brings a very particular flavor to an event; if this is the ambiance you are looking for, it is my pleasure to help out.

Having been recently married myself, I know that putting together a memorable and stress free wedding ceremony and reception requires careful planning and attention to detail. While cake and flowers are entirely out of my league, an important part of the service I provide as a wedding musician includes consulting with the bride and groom on music selection, timing, and arrangement. Whether you come to me with a strong idea of what you want to hear or are looking for suggestions, rest assured that I won't be happy with your music selection until you are happy with your music selection.

Rest assured also that your music will be heard by all of your guests. For acoustically challenging and open air spaces I can provide my own high quality PA system. I can likewise provide sound support for recorded music and for MCs and addresses.

testimonials

"We highly recommend Andy to anyone planning a wedding and thoroughly enjoyed working with him. We looked to Andy to take our ideas of how we wanted our wedding to feel and he came back to us with the perfect repertoire of music selections. His talent is only exceeded by his warm demeanor and willingness to listen and collaborate to make your event as important as if it were his own. We really felt confident that Andy's music would highlight an already amazing day, and indeed, it was the perfect finishing touch."

sound support

The most soulful music in the world finally counts for very little if no one can hear it. While in intimate settings the organic simplicity of a single guitar can be very moving, for more acoustically challenging and open air spaces, quality amplification is indispensable.

In order to maintain as much of the natural tone and character of the guitar as possible for situations requiring sound support, I use a PA system designed specifically for acoustic instruments, the Fishman SoloAmp. The SoloAmp's 220W line array system is built to be visually unobtrusive and to direct sound across a room, not at people's legs. This means better sound dispersion at lower volumes—which means that those close to the music aren't deafened so that those across the room can hear it.

For events requiring sound support before or after a live show, I am also happy to provide amplification for recorded music and for accommodating MCs, addresses, and announcements.
